Engagement Photos in Chicago, Illinois (Post by David) – “I’m determined to will a rain-free day for us!” That’s what I told Melissa on the phone as we made plans for their engagement session in downtown Chicago. It was touch and go right up to the last minute as to whether or not the rain would ruin the weekend. It seems every time we plan an engagement session lately, the clouds just up and roll in with red carpet fanfare. I wore shorts and sandals for the rest of the week and kept my toes crossed.
Cathy and I found Melissa and Doug at the Bean amongst all the cameras and tourists. I decided after this time that, although it is an easily recognizable landmark, the Bean might not be the best place to look for a photographer. Everyone around it seems to be one. I’m thinking maybe the lions in front of the Art Museum might be a better place from now on. Melissa looked beautiful that day and had a huge smile on her face for every photo. Meanwhile Doug just squeezed up as close as he could with her and got a big grin whenever we told them to make out for us. As I often am when we’re shooting in Chicago, I felt myself drawn to structures, shapes, colors and scale. Melissa and Doug were super patient with us while we rolled around on the ground to get some of our shots and directed some of the images via cell phones and hand signals. Sometimes I’ve thought about using the flashing batons they have at the airport. 😉
Melissa. Doug. Thank you so much for just going with it, for believing in a rain-free day and having so much fun in front of our cameras. It made for a great day of shooting and we hope you love the photos. We can’t wait to shoot your wedding in Lake Geneva next year!
