Stephanie and Tyler might just be our most gorgeous couple yet. I could shoot blindly over my shoulder and these two would still look awesome. When Stephanie contacted me and told me about her venue I knew we had to have them and as soon as we were booked we hooked her up with some of our favorite vendors: Julia Miller (one of our past brides and now wedding planner) and Jennifa with Toast and Jam (one of our favorite DJ’s in Chicago). Their wedding turned out to be nothing less than elegant and stunning filled with fun moments, laugh and tears.

It’s always important to be able to multi-task in the morning.

I love when Cathy catches little details like this one.

Yah, we thought Stephanie’s dad was adorable, too.

We absolutely loved Bond Chapel. It’s like a miniature version of the church we shot Missy and Tu’s wedding in. And that organ above the bride and groom was recently brought in because it was going to be destroyed. It’s absolutely stunning and I’m so glad it was saved.

Crazy stunning right? Their good looks were event mentioned during the toasts, specifically their engagement session. Thank you.

This may be one of our all time favorite photos. EVER. Seriously. We might have to make a big print of this.

Thanks to the best man for giving us some love for the session photos. He kind of looks like ‘Ridiculously Photogenic Guy’ doesn’t he?

I would like to make a request that ALL of our brides do this. Please?

So I think we’re starting a new trend with our clients of doing engagement sessions in homes. Or at least starting/finishing there. These two were outrageously cute to work with last Saturday. There was sledding, whiskey and spotlights. How can you beat that? And how seriously stunning is this couple, right? Gorgeous. Stephanie was worried the entire time about her makeup and I think we can all agree it was fabulous.

So on a first note I decided when I got home that Tyler looks like Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey??). Right?

So it’s the middle of winter and these two have never been sledding together. I had to fix that. We borrowed a sled and made it happen!

A little drama in the parking garage. This makes me think of an old movie for some reason and I love that.

I would like to say that these two have a FANTASTIC condo. I love it. And they have furniture from Restoration Hardware. I’m jealous! And when we got to their place they were nice enough to introduce their cat to me (who hated me.. oh well) and Tyler made me an insanely good Manhattan. I think I might have to visit them more often. Just saying.

Couldn’t help but take advantage of that spot light!

Okay so seriously. You two. I (David) loved working with you! Thanks for having me into your home because it was so crazy fun! We cannot wait for Stephanie and Tyler’s wedding especially since Julia (one of our past brides) is their coordinator. If this session was any sign then I know already that their wedding is going to ROCK!

We absolutely love it when very few of the guests at the wedding we are shooting speak english. Don’t ask me why because I honestly don’t know but there’s just something about being surrounded by a language you don’t understand. We had all of our conversations with Jeanne and Michael over the phone since they live in Pittsburgh and it’s something we’re very used to. A lot of our clients live nationwide. We helped them come up with ideas on where the best location to do portraits would be and we mutually agreed that the location of the Morton Arboretum would be perfect (despite the cold and walking it would involve). Their bridal party were great to work with and totally did everything we asked of them even if by the end of things they could barely feel their toes.

Michael brought Jeanne flowers that morning which we thought was super cute.

Wendy (Wendy City Faces) did an AMAZING job on Jeanne’s makeup! Plus she was super attentive!

We love that winter weddings always have special accessories to fight the cold.

Yes, I (David) couldn’t resist saying hi to the ducks after this.

I love the details in moments that Cathy catches when no one is looking.

Gotta love a groom that does this when he’s married.

We absolutely LOVED their officiant. And he had a fabulous accent. Always a plus.

I love it when I catch people by surprise with my camera but that girl was seriously too much.

I’m convinced that Jeanne’s mom is a asian version of my mother. Same haircut, personality and everything.

Jeanne and Michael have been amazing from start to finish and we loved working with them, their family and friends. They’ve also been super kind and patient while we worked in our new proofing system (which is finally running smoothly today and now in full swing — YAY) and we seriously appreciate it.

Post by David - I’m writing this while Cathy laughs hysterically at Cats that look like Ron Swanson. Hearing her giggle the entire time I wrote the blog entry just puts a smile on my face. Anyways, have to say that Julia and Jared are one of our favorite couples we got to work with this year. They kind of remind us of Cathy and I to be honest. Jared is outgoing, excitable and wears his feelings on his sleeve — kind of like me. Julia has a ton of patience (shown by how she is with Jared and because I know how patient Cathy is to be married to me, lol) and is super passionate about how much she loves Jared. Their wedding day was a roller coaster of emotions of people laughing and crying (happy tears) and we were so sad when the day came to a close. On a side note, Julia recently started doing wedding coordination (Julia Miller Events) as she is a professional event coordinator by trade and is finally getting into weddings. We’re so excited for her and her new business and can’t wait to work with her next year at one of our other brides weddings! Can’t wait Stephanie!

Lastly, I have to say Molly’s Cupcakes was by far the best thing I’ve ever had at a wedding. Their cookie dough cupcakes were incredible and I’ve already been to their location in Lincoln Park a couple of times since their wedding in December. Sad I know. But seriously. WOW.

Yes. That is a green lantern shirt. All the groomsmen had a different one.

Yes, we took like 50 pictures of this little girl, lol.

Yep. That’s Regan, one of our past brides lying on the floor during ‘SHOUT’ being all awesome.
These are the kinds of people that hire us and we love them.

Thanks again Julia and Jared for a spectacular day, for all the fun on the golf carts (we should do that again some time, maybe go carts?) and for never once turning it down past 11. We hope to see you guys again in the future. Perhaps we should meet up at Del Seoul again followed by more Molly’s Cupcakes?

Post by David - I had so much fun with Caitlin and Sean. Mostly because these two were up for anything, including Caitlin who was brave enough to get down to that awesome orange dress there at the end. Let me tell you it was pretty darn cold as you can see from their earlier outfits. I was very impressed (even if I go outside in flip flops when it’s 40 degrees out). Caitlin and Sean were fantastic to work with and so easy to get a laugh out of. I love working with couples that have no problem being as cuddly as possible with one another. I’m a complete prude in front of the camera and totally awkward (I quite literally was shaking at Cathy and my engagement session when we had to kiss, lol) so I know how to relax those kinds of couples but it’s so fun when I don’t even have to try.

On a side note – I’m really falling in love with Lincoln Park lately. I’ve discovered so much more of it that I never knew existed that has made for something different every time I shoot there.

Thanks to Caitlin and Seth for being so easy going and fun. We can’t wait for your wedding and Cathy can’t wait to meet you too!

Post by David - It’s always interesting writing blog entries from my parent’s house. Surround by people talking, anticipating opening presents (Cathy and I will be having our third Christmas this evening as soon as my sister-in-law flies in from London after spending some time with her family in Switzerland). Anyways, on with the session! Laura and AJ were wonderful to work with. We started at Millennium Park and then headed over the museum campus. I had so much fun working with these two while Cathy edited photos at home. They had been working forever trying to get their wedding booked at the Pier Marquette Hotel in Peoria, Illinois and recently they booked us for their wedding right after they finally got everything set in stone. We cannot wait for their big day and being able to spend the rest of the weekend with my family who live nearby in Bloomington-Normal.

So how do you get the couple to laugh? Have a jogger run by and apologize profusely.

Post by David - I feel like we’ve practically lived at the Palmer House this year. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not complaining. It’s one of our absolute favorite hotels in Chicago and every time we work there or book a wedding there we get all excited. It’s location in the city is perfect, so close to great places for photos. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are incredible. Plus we always get home baked cookies and fresh brownies as vendors, which is awesome.

Lindsey and Bryan are also awesome. I’m talking as awesome as the Palmer House. As awesome as fresh baked cookies and brownies. And they go together just as well (if you’ve ever had those brownies that you mix with cookie dough you know what I’m talking about). We were thrilled when they told us that they took our recommendation and hired Blu Couture for their video. Marty (one of the videographers) had recently broken his foot which is strange as I had just recovered from my own foot injury (see previous blog) but thankfully he didn’t need a cane like I did. We had a great time running all over Millenium Park with Lindsey, Bryan and Marty and Mandie. We gave one another ideas, shared lenses and kept these two laughing the whole time (though it wasn’t that difficult as Lindsey and Bryan are so full of life). Afterwards we headed back home with Marty and Mandie and discussed the day over tacos. I don’t think the day could have gone any better.

This is one of my favorite photos Cathy took that day.

I think Lindsey’s dad being so emotional almost made everyone cry.

Special thanks to Lindsey and Bryan for their patience while I blog this from my in-laws house through the crazy holiday season. We had so much fun with the two of you and loved every minute. Thanks so much for having us and making us a part of your day. We really appreciate your kindness and joy.

Post by Cathy - Staci and Amit are without a doubt two of the kindest people we have ever met, and their three-day wedding was one of our most anticipated shoots of the year. Three wedding ceremonies (yes three), two nights of dancing, and all of the Hindu traditions. And of course our favorite, Indian food. Lots of it. And all three days were AMAZING! Everything was perfect – bright colorful saris, dancing violinists, a baraat parade complete with horse, and the most perfect Monique Lhuillier dress. Staci and Amit’s family and friends were so welcoming and endlessly kind, and we were sad to leave them all when the weekend was through. We had decided to stay at the hotel all three days rather than drive home every night and the next morning we were so exhausted we slept right up until check-out, and maybe a little past, nearly having to leave in our PJ’s!

Since two of the ceremonies took place the same day, and David had severely bruised a tendon in his foot (trying to show someone how to do the Gangnam Style dance at a previous wedding and was now on serious meds and walking around on a green camo cane — can’t make this stuff up) we decided to hire our friend Jason Kaczorowski as backup on the third day and we were so lucky to have him. He was amazing to work with and his photography (and sense of humor) is impeccable!

Staci and Amit. Thank you so very much for trusting us for all three days of your incredible wedding. If you guys ever want a three-day vow renewal we are so there. Your families and friends were so wonderful to meet and get to know (David had a great time getting to know your grandfather Staci) and each and every one of them had such wonderful things to say about the both of you — and for good reason. We hope to see you both again some day and are always up for a cup of coffee if you’re ever in our neighborhood.

Post by David - Amanda and Derek are still one of my favorite engagement sessions we’ve ever done. Before the wedding I remembered them sitting on their couch playing guitar together and it just put a smile on my face. It made sense to me that a session as unique as theirs would be at a reception just as eclectic and I wasn’t the least surprised to know that it would be Salvage One — a fabulously cool antique store that hosts weddings. It was hard enough not to just examine everything this store had to offer and I know at some point Cathy and I are going to make a trip back over to examine the furniture, most of it being mid-century modern. The wedding was dark, 6400 iso if I’m lucky dark, but it made for some really amazing light to work with. But it was the light that shown from these two that made the day such a wonderful experience. These two laughed and cried all day long and it made for a lot of fun.

We were also excited to work with Blu Couture on this one, one of our favorite videographers in Chicago and it was wonderful working with a team just as creative as us, someone we could collaborate on shots with and play off one another’s creativity. We can’t wait to work with them again and as soon as the video is really we’ll be sure to post it here on the blog! We got to work with them at Lindsey and Bryan’s wedding as well at the Palmer House, which will be up later this week.

Prep started at the Hotel Palomar downtown which was absolutely gorgeous.

Post by David - The day before Amanda and Derek’s wedding (coming soon) I made the five hour drive by myself down to Nashville, Indiana to shoot a short but sweet wedding with Cathy and Michael. Normally we don’t cover weddings for less than eight hours or just one of us but Cathy was so fun to chat with that I had to make an exception to the rule. Cathy and Michael’s wedding was at a little place nestled in the woods called the Abbey Inn and following would be a laid back dinner at a restaurant in Columbus. This also happened to be the day that all the ladybugs hatched and they were everywhere but it made for some good laughs. I’d never been to either locations despite how many times I went through Nashville, Indiana to do some window shopping with Cathy back when we lived in southern Indiana. I missed driving through the winding forest roads so much and it was great to see them again.

It was fun having the opportunity to do bride prep since normally that’s Cathy’s job.

A lot of the ceremony was spent laughing about the lady bugs.

Since they didn’t have a cake they fed one another cupcakes!

Cathy and Michael were so wonderfully kind and a joy to work with. So thank you guys for that. I may have missed having my wife working with me but you guys made me feel so comfortable that I barely noticed. Thank you again and hope you two have a lovely life together!
