Annie and Youssef’s Wedding at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois. Sometimes I think it’s perfect to let our clients speak for themselves, to show the kinds of couples we love working with. This is what Annie wrote on our contact form when she first contacted us:
“Cathy and David, I am part of a large, loud, loving Jewish family that has only grown larger throughout the years! I was lucky to grow up with the majority of my family members living no more than a few minutes away. It took me a while to realize that not everyone had 50 people for Thanksgiving. My parents are an interfaith marriage (my father is Jewish and my mother is Lutheran) and many members of my family ended up marrying outside of Judaism. I am lucky to have grown up in a family that values kindness, honesty, and good character, and embraces interfaith marriage. My fiance, Youssef, immigrated to Chicago from Cairo, Egypt with his family when he was 10 years old. He also comes from a loving family who immediately embraced me as a part of the family. While his family is smaller than my family, they’re just as loud! I felt at home right away. His parents are also an interfaith marriage. His father is Catholic and his mother was Eastern Orthodox. Youssef’s mother was diagnosed with ALS about a year before we began dating. He worked to take care of his father, mother, and younger brother, even pausing college for a little while to work to help out with bills. He is a big old goofball, but I quickly learned, underneath his fun-loving and carefree exterior is a kind, genuine, humble man, who is quite serious about going to any lengths for the people he loves. His mother passed away last year, but I am lucky to have known her before she passed. Youssef and I have been through more than a lot of couples in the 4-1/2 years we’ve been together, but we feel like we know each other inside and out. We find strength, love, and lots of humor in each other and never forget to try and celebrate. We’re not big on sweating the small stuff. Your photographs are stunning. They’e not at all contrived — they’re honest. They capture people in happy, wonderfully-candid moments, and that’s what we want from our ceremony. We hope that you will be a part of our day! Best, Annie.”
And how true everything she said was at their wedding. Their family was loud, fun, exciting and inclusive. They were all about having fun together and to be honest, would have happily skipped the portraits and formals. There was no cake cutting, no introductions, and no bridal party because to them, a wedding isn’t about all that stuff. It’s just time well spent with the ones you love. And we couldn’t agree more.
Thanks Annie and Youssef for hiring us and having us be a part of your family for the day. Your generosity and joy was contagious and we truly hope to work with you again. And — thanks for the scoop of Black Dog gelato for the road. It was totally worth the carbs. 😉 Special thanks to Bridget from Shannon Gail events, Toast and Jam and Connie with the Chicago Botanic Garden for being so easy to work with. Also — Revel Designs, you did an insanely beautiful job. Wow.
