I planned my Chicago wedding all the way from California, and these guys made it very easy. I actually didn’t meet them until the day of my wedding, which made it even more exciting. Cathy arrived at my bridal suite early and immediately got to work, capturing all the tiny getting-ready moment. David did the same in the groom’s room. From start to finish, they had this unspoken flow between them, and all their shots (posed and un-posed) moved very efficiently. I was especially impressed when we took formal family photos because they wrapped it up within 20 minutes (and we have a huge family)! They kept pretty true to our timeline and managed to take gorgeous photos of my husband and I after our ceremony – and we still had plenty of time to mingle with our guests at cocktail hour.They really knew how to keep the energy going and were literally everywhere during our ceremony and reception. I would tell anyone to hire Cathy & David in a heartbeat! They photographed our wedding in downtown Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend. They were friendly, courteous, professional, fun, and super talented! “One of the most insanely beautiful shots from our wedding is one I didn’t even realize was being captured at the time. I have to also to preface this review by saying that my husband and I are both extremely finnicky about photographs. My journalism background basically dictated that we would have decidedly young, hip, and documentary-style photographers who would really listen to what we wanted and capture those small, intimate moments that tend to blur together in the rush of a wedding day. I’m accustomed to off-the-cuff, unobtrusive photography, not highly posed or stylized images. And it doesn’t help that our brother-in-law is a top-notch wedding photog here in southern California, where we live. In short, we had been previously exposed to fabulous work, we knew what we were looking for, and we wanted a particular photojournalistic style to convey our day (and the afterparty, natch!). We found just that in Cathy and David Bock, a married couple based in Bloomington (but with the talent to go worldwide, take it from us!). Their blog galleries are fabulous (and narrated in such a personal, intimate way by C+D), but two things really sold us. First, we asked to look at several of their complete galleries from recent weddings. This really helped us see the fluidity of their style (and told such a complete picture of the wedding day — having a husband and wife really helps ensure every little moment of preparation leading up to the ceremony is captured! Plus, what a deal!). Second, it’s obvious that Cathy and David are genuinely doing what they love. Take it from me, kids — this cannot be underestimated. They love weddings, from start to finish, and that’s what’s so refreshing about the way they shoot. We couldn’t have been more thrilled with them. And a third thing: they stayed. For a LONG time. First email: Hi Cathy & David — I’m not sure if you remember me or not, but my fiance Ty and I are getting married next August 20, 2011. We were deciding between you and another photography company in the area about 2 months ago and, due only to location, we went with the other company. I am writing because I know that I made a huge mistake, probably the biggest mistake that I will regret forever. I was wondering if you still had our wedding date available, August 20, 2011, for next summer? If so, I am willing to forfeit all of the money I have already paid ot the other company to sign a contract with you. I know this is kind of last minute, and that you are probalby booked already for our date, but I thought it was worth a shot. Again, I am so sorry for not going with you in the first place, guess I thought location was important…not sure why, but I guess hindsight is always 20/20.

Seeing these photos again makes me remember how difficult it was to watch him go and how wonderful it was to welcome him home (safely!!) a year later.
