Wedding Photography at J&J Winery in Richmond, Indiana (Post by David) – Cathy and I have always loved the fact that a large number of our clients are professional singers, dancers, actresses and other people in the arts industry. These people are always so much fun to hang out with and work with on the wedding day. Heather and Sam were no exception. These two had so much fun at their wedding and we were so glad to be a part of it.

Heather described herself the moment we walked into the church as laid back to a fault. Is that really possible? After leaving Cathy I went and met up with Sam who was just as laid back, laughing and joking with his groomsmen as they set up at the winery and practiced singing for later that night at the reception — which was filled with singing, dancing and some of the best steel drums (Sam is AMAZING!!!) I have ever heard. I think the highlight of the night for me though had to be the long distance phone call from Heather’s aunt congratulating the two of them. What’s great is that it happened right during the toasts, so they broadcast the call over the speakers. And despite the pouring rain (our streak was finally broken) no one could keep the smiles off their faces.

So as we mentioned in one of our previous posts we got new cameras. Cathy and I were lucky enough to get a pair of brand new 5D Mark2‘s. These cameras are beyond amazing. For the photographers reading our blog, yes they are 100% worth every penny. Later today I’ll get to use them at a session I’m shooting so I’m super excited. We’ve been playing with them all week and thought I’d post a picture of one of the brides we met with on the day we got our new cameras from Cord Camera here in Bloomington. She was worried about being photogenic show I snapped a shot of her at our local Pourhouse Cafe. So for you photogs out there this was shot at 6400 ISO, on a 50 f/1.4USM at 1/500th. Anyways, Holly is going to be a super cool bride and we’re so excited about her wedding. We’ll also be working with April Foster, of Blue Sky Designs who is an AMAZING coordinator that we hear nothing but great things about. So be sure to check her out if you think you can’t do it on your own. You won’t be dissapointed, as she’s worth every penny!!

When our online photofriend from California, Melissa McClure, told us she was going to be in Indiana we knew we had to meet up!! Yesterday we got together for dinner at Mandalay Burmese Restaurant (our favorite place in b-town). Afterwards we headed off to our place and talked photos, wedding albums, cats, off-camera flash, the new 5D Mark2, and our favorite 50mm lens. It was super fun and next time we’re in California we’re TOTALLY hitting her up.

THE MADISON HOTEL – Morristown, New Jersey.

I remember when I met Brian, when he had long hair and tie-dyed shirts and listened to clown rap. I remember those days vividly. How did I ever know he would mature into an amazing guy who ended up marrying an equally amazing woman. Brian has been one of my closest friends since freshman year of college. He was my roommate, and the best man at our wedding last year. Seriously… was that really last year??

Anyways, I remember meeting Erin at Subway for lunch. We’d been friends forever on MySpace and decided to meet in person. As soon as I met her I knew instantly she had to meet Brian. After some coaxing on both sides and a little match making fairy dust I got those two dating and they’ve been together ever since, longer than Cathy and I, would you believe it?? As I stood up there at the front on Sunday watching everyone around me get all teary-eyed, myself included, I came to the realization that I’ve watched my friend grow into the man he’s become. Brian is like a brother to me, he’s family, my BFF, and I was so honored to be a part of his day.

So why wasn’t I shooting it? We’ve had a couple people ask us why we didn’t shoot their wedding. Simply put, Brian and Erin wanted us to enjoy ourselves at their wedding. Don’t get me wrong I LOOOOVE my job, but it is a job, and we work ourselves silly when we do. Brian and Erin knew this, and wanted us to be able to kick back, dance, and have drinks. So they had us help them find the right person for the job. After searching I found ten of my favorites and sent them her way. Vantage Pictures happened to be the one they chose and they did such an awesome job and were super-professional, even putting up with my endless jabbering.

It was nice to dance without feeling guilty.

While at the wedding we also met Eric (Brian’s best man) and Elena (Eric’s russian girlfriend). They are now our new best friends and I KNOW we’ll totally be seeing a lot of them. We’ve already decided on a couple get togethers. It’s weird how things work out like that.

As soon Vantage Pictures gets their photos up of the wedding day I’ll be dropping a link!!! It’ll be so cool to see their perspective on the day!! Here’s hoping we can get a wedding out in New York (hint hint people!!) so we can hit them up for lunch.

Anyways.. a good time was had by all. The wedding reminded me so much of our wedding.. most of the groomsmen were the same and now we’re all married. I feel so old now. Eesh. Though I’m so sad it’s all over, and we’re back here in Indiana, I’m glad I have the memories of that day.

Seymour, Indiana – September 20, 2008.

At the close of this wedding, Luke came up and put his arm around me and said that he’d like a photo with us because he thought we were totally a part of their day. We love feeling that way at weddings. We know it’s always about the Bride and Groom, but it feels so cool to be a part of the most amazing point in a couples life. These two are desperately in love. I’ve never seen a groom try so hard not to cry, while his friends and family teared up around him. I knew I was going to lose it.

When Cat and I shot Jennifer and Luke’s engagement session out in the middle of nowhere at a nature reserve we had never heard of we knew these two were going to be fun. We knew they were in love by the looks in eachother’s eyes. We’re always so happy to see couples so dearly in love with one another. We’ve been so blessed to get one after another.

We met with Jennifer at the salon with three of her bridesmaids, one of them, Laura, wants to be a wedding baker and made these (seriously) amazing cookies for their day. We think she’ll go far if she always brings people yummy snacks! Haha! At the end of the salon session we found out that their hair stylist had known them forever and were like a part of the family, we got the idea that anyone involved with these two would end up feeling like family. A trip to McDonald’s for the girls and over at the church I saw a huge white tent in the back and came to find out that her mom did the flowers (holy cow!) and the guys decorated the tent (and did a nice job!!). All the programs were hand made and so beautiful. We took pre-formals (they didn’t see eachother till after) and then the wedding started.

Little did I know that Luke’s father was marrying them like Cat’s dad married us. Little did I know that Somewhere Over the Rainbow (our first dance) was going to play at the end. And how could I have known that people would be tearing up all around me. By the end of the ceremony tears were pouring down my face and I could barely see through the viewfinder. I love this job.

After the wedding we headed off to the reception outside and enjoyed cookies, yummy’s (prepared by Luke’s aunt, is everyone accomplished in this family??) and a slideshow of the couple with photos we took of them at their engagement session in it too! So cool seeing your photographs all big and huge on a tent ceiling! Anyways, I could go on and on and on so here’s some of our favorites followed by a slideshow with more of our favorites!
