So normally the first thing I would talk about for a wedding would be the day, and how pretty everything was but for this one the first thing I have to mention is the little desert that Brieanne herself made for all of her guests. WOW. She set out to make Oreo truffle balls. Holy wow they were good. I still have dreams about them, and Brieanne was nice enough to share them with me and I plan on making them this weekend. Brieanne is actually a personal chef and trainer and is working on starting a food blog that we’re very excited about! As soon as it becomes available we’ll be sure to do a blog post on here so everyone can head on over and get some fantastic recipes. Honestly, any time our clients talk about food, or mention food, we’re sold. We’re in 100%.

That said, beyond the food Brieanne and Michael were so much fun, such good sports, and just had an absolute blast on their wedding day and that just makes our job easier. Thank you so much to the both of you for making us feel so welcome at your wedding and constantly staying in touch with us. If you’re even in Chicago, hit us up for some good food and drinks. We’ll be there!

Wedding Photography Coverage on September 19th, 2009 – Indianapolis, Indiana

We knew when we photographed Anna and Maris’ beautiful engagement session at the Indianapolis Museum of Art that their wedding was going to be something special. Maris has a Latvian background and so he told us that there was going to be lots of partying, lots of dancing, singing, and all around craziness to be had. He didn’t disappoint.

The wedding, at the Pleasant View Lutheran Church itself was bi-lingual, by one of the best pastors we’ve had the joy of listening too. Normally Cathy and I are super focused on taking our photos that we barely hear what’s going on around us, much less hear the messages spoken. We see emotions, and we capture them. But this time we couldn’t help but listen. Maybe it was his heartfelt message, or maybe it was how he said, “And now it is time, that they have been waiting for. Now it is time for the kiss,” in his strong Latvian accent. Regardless, we were captured by those around us, the voices, the different languages being spoken, along with all the laughing and singing that Maris had told us about.

At the reception, which was held at the Latvian Community Center in Indianapolis, we got to see the full extent of the families’ joy for the wedding. The highlight of the evening was watching everyone making Anna tear up (as if they’d heard her say at the Salon that morning that she swore she wouldn’t cry). The big tear jerker (even from yours truly) came when one of the family members performed the Ceremony of the Box. This got everyone choked up. We also got to see a traditional Latvian dance, as Anna is part of the Latvian Dance group at the community center. It was probably my favorite part of the evening, though the loud singing of Maris’ fraternity surrounding him and Anna, followed by more singing on top of the bar, came in at a close second. Every minute of the day was wonderful and from what we could tell it probably went on till sometime this week! Anna and Maris had full day coverage with us but came up to us around 11:30 at night and said, “You know… I know you guys stay till it’s over with full day coverage.. but.. umm.. this probably won’t be over till tomorrow afternoon.” The best man even had a sleeping bag in his car! Now that’s a party!

When I saw one of the grandmothers (below) I was stunned and shocked at how much she looks like my late grandmother, Renee. I’m not kidding when I say the resemblance is startlingly uncanny!

I absolutely LOVED when all these guys started singing for the couple. It was fabulous.

Anna and Maris — We loved working with you guys and your family was an absolute joy! Thanks for having us there to share in the excitement! And Anna … seriously … why did you have to get me addicted to TapWord??

Wedding Photography at the Indianapolis Marriott North – Indianapolis, Indiana

It was a warm, rainy evening last May when Brandon surprised Meghan by lowering one knee to the wet concrete next to the Sample Gates on I.U. campus and pulling out a ring. Meghan’s face lit up with joy, and of course she said YES! Luckily, Brandon had hired us to photograph his proposal (all sneaky-like). But since I was out of town that day, I have only seen pictures of Meghan and Brandon, so I was super-excited to finally meet them in person when they said their vows last Saturday.

June 20th, 2009 — Unlike their rainy-day proposal session (see their photos here), the sky on Saturday was absolute perfection, a bright yellow sun and perfect white, poofy clouds. Both of Meghan’s parents, as well as her aunt and grandmother, showed up at the salon bright and early to see Meghan begin her day. And from that moment on, everything was perfect. Meghan’s dress was GORGEOUS and looked like it was made just for her. The reception was full of heart-felt words, tears, (awesome food!) and, of course, some major partying that went late into the night! We had a blast!

Meghan and Brandon- Thank you for letting us capture this important event in your lives. We were so amazed by your closeness to your families and friends. It was easy to see that you are both loved and adored by everyone around you. Congratulations to you both, and we hope you have an amazing time in Cancun!!!

Wedding Photography at The Atrium – Indianapolis, Indiana.

As some of you may know, before being a wedding photographer I was a graphic designer. At one of the interviews I went to in Bloomington, Indiana I showed someone the wedding invitations I designed for our own wedding as part of my portfolio. A year later I got an email from a bride who had remembered those invitations and suddenly had discovered we were now wedding photographers! Isn’t it weird how things work out?

Natalie was a graphic designer too! Designing her own invites, save the date cards, programs, and everything else!! Natalie has been one of our favorite brides to chat with about her wedding, exchanging ideas about paper, and shots, and everything else in between.

We met with Natalie at the Zen Salon early in the morning and I don’t think the excitement ever once left her eyes. All of her friends were so excited there with her. Afterwards we headed to her beautiful home where she got all of her makeup on and fed us super yummy Panera sandwiches (holy cow were they good!!). Once lunch was over and everyone was ready we headed to their church, St. Barnabus, where over 400 people had begun to arrive to help them celebrate their day. This is where I met Matt.

Matt’s a twin by the way, so when looking at photos, it was even hard for us during the ceremony we had to remember that Matt had a cream flower and his brother had a red flower. It was very confusing! Cathy’s dad is a twin so we’re a bit used to it, but still. What a brain workout! Everyone was was so excited to see these two get married, including the pastor who always wears sandals who wore (sorry for the ridiculous typo that used to be here!!) matching socks to Natalie’s colors just for her!

It was so fun getting to the reception, at The Atrium, and seeing a little place card just for us! Getting a chance to eat with the family always helps us get to know our couples even more as the evening goes on, and just listening to the bridal parties emotional stories makes us feel so honored to be a part of our couples lives. Suffice to say a lot of happy tears were shed by all.

We were so excited as well to see B&C Digital Media there and were super-easy to work with. They are another husband and wife team, like us, but do videography. Suffice to say there were a lot of couples working hard, not just Natalie and Matt! Either way our first wedding of 2009 was just plain awesome and we loved every minute of it. Thank you so much to Natalie and Matt for making us feel like family, and we hope to work with you guys again sometime in the future.

Wedding Photography in Indianapolis, Indiana

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, two people met. Their names were Larry and Sarah. They would eventually fall madly in love and have a crazy wedding for two crazy people. Larry contacted me way back when we were just starting out. They had faith in what they saw and knew we were the ones for them. After shooting an engagement session at the circle that I still absolutely love, and seeing a crazy spike on our page loads (Larry gets excited) we knew their wedding was going to be one to remember. Boy were we right!

Charcoal cooked corn on the cob, grown men dancing to Prince like crazy people, women dancing with those crazy guys, their daughter giving me a bouquet before taking it away just as quickly and then giving it back. I went through a car wash with the groomsmen while watching horribly stupid youtube videos. I fixed a DJs equipment and saved the music for the ceremony from being nothing but crickets (my claim to fame for the day). We watched as these two went from crazy-nervousness to giddy-excitement to madly in love in the span of twenty minutes.

Larry and Sarah are just the kind of people we look for. We love their family’s unfathomable excess of love and excitement for the day, and the sea of happy faces we saw. It was so hard for us to pick so few of these photos but thankfully we’re able to debut our new feature on our blog. Our slideshows!!! We’re so excited.
