Post by David – Emilyn and Cody heard about us through Anna and Braden, who had one of our favorite outdoor weddings, so we knew these two were going to be awesome to work with. We headed down to Indianapolis and met Emilyn and Cody at Arsenal Tech High School where they both used to teach. They live in New York now so this was something very special for the both of them. The surrounding grounds were filled with beautiful flowers, brick walls, and wrought iron fences covered in vines. We ran around all over the place with these two and they had no trouble keeping up with us. Then we all piled into our new Subaru Forester (they were the first ones we used it with – yay!) and after an outfit change we headed downtown to the canals and shot along the water as the sun went down. These two were totally in cahoots with our special blend of silliness and kept laughing the whole shoot. We cannot wait for their wedding next year in Bloomington, Indiana and look forward to seeing them again!

Wedding on July 10, 2010 at the Indiana Statehouse and the Rathskeller in Indianapolis, Indiana - (Post by Cathy) We first met Sara and Josh a while back on a beautiful afternoon for their West Lafayette engagement session on Purdue campus (along with their adorable dog Daisy). They are both super laid back with a great sense of humor and are so easy to work with. We knew immediately that their wedding was going to be awesome to shoot!

The day of Sara and Josh’s wedding in Indianapolis was hot, but absolutely gorgeous. The sun was shining bright all day and there wasn’t a drop of rain to be seen. When we met with Sara at the salon, she had been there with her mom and bridesmaids since bright and early getting everyone gussied up, and she was super excited to get the day started. They spent the morning chatting and laughing over college stories and telling me how they had all met at Purdue (go Boilers!!!). So, of course, the Purdue fight song was a hit at the reception.

Everything about the day went smoothly and perfectly, and these two looked so happy together dancing the night away at their reception. Sara and Josh – it was an honor to capture your day. You two are absolutely perfect together and we had a blast hanging out with you and  your friends and family. Hope you enjoy the photos!:)

Photobooth Photography on September 26th, 2009 – Huntingburg, Indiana

So what is the photobooth? Well for one, it’s not your standard square box that pops out sets of three pictures. It’s also not really a place to do the standard studio style portrait. Our goal is for people to be awesome. Super-awesome. We want people to go out of their way to be crazy, to be nuts. If it means taking off their pants to accomplish that goal, well… so be it. The true purpose of our photobooth, is to capture the emotion of the friends and family at the wedding day. Our goal is in truth, not a place for people to get cool pictures of themselves for their facebook page, but for the Bride and Groom to have crazy photos of their friends being nuts, so they can have those memories forever.. or use them for black mail.

We figured no one could start it off better than Summer and Ryan. And happily, they agreed to be the first. Along with 450 of their guests.

So once our ginormous umbrella and flash were up, and the background placed, the modeling light switched on, the people started coming in. It was so fun seeing people of all ages wanting their photos taken. And though there were a couple ‘cheese’ photos everyone who did one was nice enough to agree to be out of their minds for another. As we expected with Summer and Ryan, their photobooth was a smashing success and we are completely thrilled with the results! We can’t wait to provide our wedding photobooth to our future brides. Anyways, on with the photos!

Below is Meredith (we’re shooting her Captiva, Florida destination wedding in March), as well as Amanda and Roger (who just had their Lake Geneva engagement session)!

Wedding Photography Coverage on September 19th, 2009 – Indianapolis, Indiana

We knew when we photographed Anna and Maris’ beautiful engagement session at the Indianapolis Museum of Art that their wedding was going to be something special. Maris has a Latvian background and so he told us that there was going to be lots of partying, lots of dancing, singing, and all around craziness to be had. He didn’t disappoint.

The wedding, at the Pleasant View Lutheran Church itself was bi-lingual, by one of the best pastors we’ve had the joy of listening too. Normally Cathy and I are super focused on taking our photos that we barely hear what’s going on around us, much less hear the messages spoken. We see emotions, and we capture them. But this time we couldn’t help but listen. Maybe it was his heartfelt message, or maybe it was how he said, “And now it is time, that they have been waiting for. Now it is time for the kiss,” in his strong Latvian accent. Regardless, we were captured by those around us, the voices, the different languages being spoken, along with all the laughing and singing that Maris had told us about.

At the reception, which was held at the Latvian Community Center in Indianapolis, we got to see the full extent of the families’ joy for the wedding. The highlight of the evening was watching everyone making Anna tear up (as if they’d heard her say at the Salon that morning that she swore she wouldn’t cry). The big tear jerker (even from yours truly) came when one of the family members performed the Ceremony of the Box. This got everyone choked up. We also got to see a traditional Latvian dance, as Anna is part of the Latvian Dance group at the community center. It was probably my favorite part of the evening, though the loud singing of Maris’ fraternity surrounding him and Anna, followed by more singing on top of the bar, came in at a close second. Every minute of the day was wonderful and from what we could tell it probably went on till sometime this week! Anna and Maris had full day coverage with us but came up to us around 11:30 at night and said, “You know… I know you guys stay till it’s over with full day coverage.. but.. umm.. this probably won’t be over till tomorrow afternoon.” The best man even had a sleeping bag in his car! Now that’s a party!

When I saw one of the grandmothers (below) I was stunned and shocked at how much she looks like my late grandmother, Renee. I’m not kidding when I say the resemblance is startlingly uncanny!

I absolutely LOVED when all these guys started singing for the couple. It was fabulous.

Anna and Maris — We loved working with you guys and your family was an absolute joy! Thanks for having us there to share in the excitement! And Anna … seriously … why did you have to get me addicted to TapWord??

We also had the fun of being able to hang out with our photofriends at the annual PUG Christmas party. It was great being able to see everyone at a man cave in Indianapolis. Kiera‘s husband has one in his office and we were able to ‘borrow it’ for the evening. It was SUPER-cool.

I don’t know if I want to talk about how badly both Kevin Swan, and Cathy beat me at bean bag toss. I was just plain terrible. >.< Thankfully though I made up for it by kicking but at Poker. I don’t know if I’m as good as those OC photogs but I think I did pretty decent. Maybe it’s my poker face… which looks like my normal face.. ?? Anyways, on with some photos!!

Our friend and WPPI roomie, Maya, commented on the last blog post not to post a silly picture of her. Just so everyone knows, this picture isn’t silly. I promise. It just looks that way.

So we all started to clean up and Kiera picked up the ping pong bag and seriously, everything fell out of it at once. Ping pong balls were EVERYWHERE. It was a good laugh and Cat got this shot.

Wedding Photography in Indianapolis, Indiana

“Hey David. Just wanted to let you know we mailed Cathy’s jacket.”

“Seriously?? Thank you SO much!!”

Yes. Cat lost her coat at the last wedding (at least it wasn’t a lens or something).

As I watched the maid of honor become overwhelmed with happy tears I realized just how much she loved this couple. Everyone was overjoyed at seeing these two get married. There were tears in everyone’s eyes. Of course watching these two getting married, the officiant singing a soft song as they lit their candles, brought me back to when I read the first of many emails.

We met this crazy duo over emails time and time again and through many comments on other bride’s wedding days with lines such as, “It’s only 4 months away.” “It’s only 2 months!!!” “WE’RE SO EXCITED!!!” After talking on the phone a couple weeks before the wedding we were so thrilled to have booked them. I know I’ve said it before (we’re just lucky I guess) but this is one of the sweetest couples we’ve ever had the honor to work with.

Just a few of the great details of the day we spent with them: Jacob had his own Captain America cuff-links from Stephanie. The guys bought us breakfast at Cracker Barrel (such a sweet thing to do). The groom and his gents went to Red’s Barber Shop for an old fashioned haircut and shave, and the gals went to a salon called Alchemy to get their hair all done up. When they had their first look the two were almost in tears at seeing each other. They were in tears again as they said their vows. They were in tears as their friends told them how dear they were to each other. (I was in tears too! ).

I could go on and on about how fun this couple was and how beautiful their wedding day was but as always the photos in the end speak for themselves. Meet Steph and Jake!

So this was hysterical. The maid of honor after her tear-filled heartfelt speech announced that all the guys that had Steph’s key to her place had to finally turn them in as she was now taken. Seriously, like every guy in the place handed in a key, young and old. Finally followed by the best man. Hilarious!!!

And last and my favorite.

What a seriously cool wedding. We hope these two renew their vows someday and give us a call because we’ll totally be there. Anyways thanks so much you two for such a FUN wedding!!!

Also on a side note, just wanted to make a shout out to our friend, Ben for all the awesome words of encouragement. You rock man! As well a special thanks to Kevin for being such an awesome PUG leader and showing us such cool new things to do!!

Wedding Photography in Indianapolis, Indiana

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, two people met. Their names were Larry and Sarah. They would eventually fall madly in love and have a crazy wedding for two crazy people. Larry contacted me way back when we were just starting out. They had faith in what they saw and knew we were the ones for them. After shooting an engagement session at the circle that I still absolutely love, and seeing a crazy spike on our page loads (Larry gets excited) we knew their wedding was going to be one to remember. Boy were we right!

Charcoal cooked corn on the cob, grown men dancing to Prince like crazy people, women dancing with those crazy guys, their daughter giving me a bouquet before taking it away just as quickly and then giving it back. I went through a car wash with the groomsmen while watching horribly stupid youtube videos. I fixed a DJs equipment and saved the music for the ceremony from being nothing but crickets (my claim to fame for the day). We watched as these two went from crazy-nervousness to giddy-excitement to madly in love in the span of twenty minutes.

Larry and Sarah are just the kind of people we look for. We love their family’s unfathomable excess of love and excitement for the day, and the sea of happy faces we saw. It was so hard for us to pick so few of these photos but thankfully we’re able to debut our new feature on our blog. Our slideshows!!! We’re so excited. So take a look at some of our total super-dooper favs, and then watch the slideshow go by. So Larry, I know you’ve been waiting all day:

June 28, 2008 – Garfield Park, Indiana.

How much do Sarah and Kyle rock? A WHOLE LOT! We met this couple a while back and immediately fell in love with them. We know their laid-back joyful attitudes were totally up our alley! How can I explain how much these two are in love? Let’s just say after the first time Cathy asked if she could get them to kiss for her, whenever we had them look at each other, a strange gravity field developed around their lips and their faces were suddenly together!! These two have the most awesome location for their wedding here in Indiana (we’re not telling where) and we’re so upset we have to wait till NEXT June to shoot there! UGH! That just plain drives us crazy. If you think the anticipation of waiting for your wedding is killing you, remember that we have the anticipation of lots and lots of weddings!!! It’s SO TOUGH!

Anyways, we’re so excited about these photos because we just plain love’m so here they are!!!

It was a very busy day at the park.

Sarah begged Kyle to do the Spiderman kiss. So he complied. I was so freaked he was going to fall on his head but thankfully he is much more acrobatic than I am.

Our first engagement jump-shot! It totally shows their personality! I’m sure we’ll have one of these at their wedding! Only with lots more people!!!

I think this picture totally sums up these two. Whenever they would walk she would hold his finger. I found this so cute. All couples have their own way of holding on to each other, whether walking or not. It reminds me of Cat the way she’ll grab an article of my clothing, the loop of my pants while we walk, or when we’re watching a movie on the couch. It’s these little quirks that couples have, their individual signature love grip that makes them special… We love capturing those little moments. 

Thanks Sarah and Kyle for being such a cool couple we LOVED hanging out with you guys and being able to capture the two of you in love and give you some memories you’ll have forever!!
