Political Candidate Photography Session – Indianapolis, Indiana and Beach Grove, Indiana

I’ve always tried to keep politics out of business, twitter and facebook. I’ve always found discussing such things in person over a glass of wine and dinner to be much more enjoyable, and less stressful. But, when Cathy found out that her friend, Wes Robinson, was running for State Representative, we knew we had to help. Wes is the son of a pastor that Cathy went to church with when she was younger and has known him for a very long time. We were so excited at the opportunity to be able to take his photos that will be used on their upcoming website (site coming soon!). Wes is running as the Republican candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives, District 97, which includes Indianapolis and Beach Grove. He also works as a Neuro Critical Care RN in Indy. He’s actually known for being ‘the male nurse’. Right after we got back from San Francisco (photos coming soon, promise! ), we met up with him on the circle to take photos before heading over to Beach Grove. Finally we got some photos of him in his nurse scrubs. We had an awesome time working with Wes and look forward to seeing how his political career goes. Go Wes!

Engagement Photography Session – Indiana University Campus and Oliver Winery, Bloomington Indiana

The day we shot this engagement session was absolutely perfect. The clouds gave us some gorgeous, even light and the colors of the fall leaves were so bright and vibrant. Plus, it didn’t hurt that we had some amazing subjects.

Brianna and Scott are one of the cutest couples ever! They seem so perfect and natural together which made them so easy to photograph. They recently moved from California (where they’ll be getting married next year) to go to I.U. here in Bloomington, which is why we focused on campus for the first half of their session. And since Bri and Scott both love wine tasting (and are planning a California vineyard wedding), we decided to also grab some photos at Oliver Winery (which reminded us a bit of Kate and Nathan’s Iowa vineyard wedding earlier this year) since it is absolutely gorgeous in the fall. Bri and Scott – you guys were awesome and we hope you enjoy your photos! Hit us up for a wine tasting trip anytime–we’re totally there.

Engagement Photography Session on October 7th, 2009 – Indianapolis University Campus, Bloomington Indiana

Oh the connections game. It continues onward. Meet Elizabeth and Erik. Do you remember Lizzie and David’s Bloomington wedding? Well Erik is David’s friend, and Elizabeth was Lizzie’s roommate (who knew Amanda bla bla bla), not to mention we’ll be shooting David’s brother’s engagement session next week. The list goes onward. We were so excited after we shot Lizzie & David’s engagement photos in Bloomington to hear from Elizabeth & Erik that they wanted us to be their engagement photographers, too, but even more excited when they hired us to be the photographers for their Atlanta wedding at the end of January of 2010! Yes. That’s right. Atlanta, Georgia. Only a couple more months guys!!! We are SO excited!

Although Erik didn’t attend the initial meeting that we had with Elizabeth, we were able to get to know him at Lizzie & David’s wedding where he was a groomsman and I quickly caught on that he has a knack for making people laugh (especially Elizabeth!). We had so much fun with these two, and they were so super-kind enough to put up with my terrible jokes that I just plain love them. We are so excited about their wedding and can’t hold back any further — on with the photos!

Little story here… Bloomington, Indiana’s own Finch’s Restaurant (which has AMAZING food btw.. I went here for my birthday with Cathy) is the location of where Erik proposed to Elizabeth. We love being able to shoot in locations with history for our couples. It makes the photos so much more important.

A note to upcoming current/potential brides and clients. First off, we’re fully booked for sessions in October. We just can’t do anymore! Second, we’ll be on vacation from October 24th to November 1st in San Francisco, California with my parents. We’ll put up an away blog entry when we leave (and there will be PLENTY of postings while we’re gone) but just giving a heads up in case some one needs to get in touch with us for anything, NOW is the time!! Wedding Photography Coverage at the Rathskellar – Downtown Indianapolis, Indiana

We first heard about Emelia from our friend, Amanda Wilcher, who she went to college with. Amanda was unavailable for Emelia’s date and recommended us (and we’re sooo glad she did because we love this couple so much!).

Emelia and Michael are two of the most genuine, real, and down-to-earth couples we’ve had. Their stress level was low, and I love that they really concentrated on truly enjoying the most important day of their marriage. The morning with the girls was spent in the kitchen of Emelia & Michael’s newly-purchased home laughing and watching YouTube videos before we headed out into the hot August afternoon to make our way to the church. Everything about the ceremony and reception was perfect. The bridesmaids’ dresses were so cute, and I LOVED the combination of the pink bouquets and gray dresses. We also had the chance to take some of their portraits down at Memorial Circle just as the sun was starting to dip down toward the horizon…and the gooey sunlight was perfection!

The Rathskeller was a perfect spot for the wedding reception with its old world decor and gorgeous window light streaming in over the dinner tables. Also, I have to mention that there was an abundance of adorably cute kids at this wedding that I could not stop taking pictures of. Especially that red-headed ring-bearer—keep an eye out for him in the slideshow cuz he kinda steals the show. Emelia & Michael – We so appreciated your sense of humor, your laid-back style, and your amazing love for each other. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your day and capture the first moments of your married life together!

Cathy and I had the joyous opportunity to take photos of a super cute photography team from (Columbus) Ohio, Rachel and Jared Jacobus, of Jacobus Photo. Cathy and I got to know these two while developing their brand. Cathy and I have begun offering our design services to other wedding vendors (not just photographers, but planners, florists, etc) to get our design fix. We’ve had so much fun working with these two and knew that the only we could complete their brand identity was to do a little photo session of the two of them, so we met in downtown Indianapolis to take their photos. These two are so much in love. We’re so excited about their letterpress business cards that we currently are getting printed.

Wedding Photography at the Purdue Memorial Union – Lafayette, Indiana

Their high-pitched laughter was echoing down the hallway and I knew which hotel room it was before even glancing at the numbers. Inside, Nicole was sitting with her sister and closest friends, laughing, sipping champagne, and remembering their days together in high school and college. Boys they had dated for far too long, that girl they knew in track and field, that teacher everyone hated. “Can’t we just stay in here and drink and eat and talk all day?” one of the girls laughed.

But today Nicole was getting married. I could see that she was nervous, but only a little. When the laughter and talking would die down, when the girls were in the bathroom with their makeup or somewhere down the hall, Nicole’s face relaxed and she looked down to turn her diamond ring in place. I could tell she was ready. Today was her day, and it was going to be perfect!

And it was. Nicole’s dress was flawless and looked amazing on her as she stood alone waiting for Adron to come up and meet his soon-to-be-bride. Since their formal wedding photography was going to be taken before the ceremony (which I highly recommend!), Nicole and Adron had a quiet moment alone to see each other and prepare themselves for the most important day of their relationship. After exchanging cards and kisses, the two took a deep breath and headed downstairs to meet the bridal party for some rockin’ pictures before heading over the river to the amazingly beautiful Cathedral of St. Mary.

After Nicole & Adron said their vows and ducked into their limousine, we all made our way to their wedding reception at the Purdue Memorial Union in West Lafayette, where everyone partied hard until late into the night. The first of the two major highlights of the evening had to be Adron’s retrieval of Nicole’s garter belt, for which his loyal groomsmen attached themselves to him with a rope and donned hard hats as he braved the cave of Nicole’s dress (possibly the funniest thing I have EVER witnessed at a reception!). And the second was Nicole’s aunt Bridget’s hilarious rendition of “Baby Got Back” to which everyone joined in and sang at the top of their lungs. Needless to say, the party was a total blast! Definitely one of our favorites to date!

Congratulations, you two! We hope you have a fun and relaxing time on your honeymoon!

The dining table was covered in vases of flowers and bowls of petals, and the girls were dancing and prancing about the house with excitement as they prepared for the day. Enter us, the photographers. “It’s like I know you but I don’t,” she said, eyes wider than half-dollar coins. Anna is perhaps one of the most excited brides and devoted blog-stalkers we’ve ever met. Look back through a few of our blog posts and watch her comments grow more and more ecstatic as her own day drew near. She absolutely could not wait to marry Braden. The second Anna walked down the aisle and met him under the branches of the oak tree she’d played under as a child, it was as if everything was right. They breathed a sigh of relief, and spoke to each other some of the most devoted, heart-felt words I’ve ever heard. Everything about that ceremony was perfect, from the presence of their closest friends and family, laughing and crying, to the odd assortment of mis-matched chairs in which they sat, each one holding a spirit and personality of its own. It was perfectly them.

Anna and Braden – Thank you both so much for giving us the pleasure of capturing your day. Your personalities, your wit, and your love for each other and your families inspire us. You will forever be two of our favorite people.

Do you remember Meredith and Ulises? Well Mer’s friend Amanda has a friend named Summer. Summer told Amanda who told Mer. That’s how the story goes. At least I think so. Currently we have 7 or 8 brides that are all crazy interconnected together..

Anyways, Cathy and I have been in talks with this amazing couple for what seems like forever now and we’ve been so super-super pumped to shoot their session. They even let us do our first night-time engagement session which we’ve been so crazy excited to do. Well here’s the deal though. This sessions should have been last weekend but it rained. This weekend however the skies were clear and it worked perfect (despite feeling like a billion degrees out). These two drove all the way from their new home in Pittsburgh to do this session and that makes us feel all sorts of special. I could seriously go on for hours about how much we love these two but Summer might go even more crazy if I don’t post this as fast as possible. She’s been so freaking excited to do her session since we did Mer’s that it’s been driving her bonkers. So either way, on with the session!!! Prepare yourself, this is a long one. Since they let us do a night session with them we pretty much included both parts! It was so hard to get down to this many!!!

Summer and Ryan were so thrilled that we were able to get onto the court and into the stadium for some of their photos. Even though we’re die-hard Purdue grads, we totally understand having school spirit. Plus it was super fun.

The sky was AWESOME!

As the night grew later and it got darker, we got more and more excited. Starting with this one!

We kept getting so excited about Summer’s eyes. And for good reason!

Ryan said he was super-nervous but we think he looks very calm and cool.

Quite possibly one of our favorite engagement photos, ever. LOVE THIS.

This is one of Cathy’s favorites, and I think it’s one of mine too now.

Wedding Photography at the Indianapolis Marriott North – Indianapolis, Indiana

It was a warm, rainy evening last May when Brandon surprised Meghan by lowering one knee to the wet concrete next to the Sample Gates on I.U. campus and pulling out a ring. Meghan’s face lit up with joy, and of course she said YES! Luckily, Brandon had hired us to photograph his proposal (all sneaky-like). But since I was out of town that day, I have only seen pictures of Meghan and Brandon, so I was super-excited to finally meet them in person when they said their vows last Saturday.

June 20th, 2009 — Unlike their rainy-day proposal session (see their photos here), the sky on Saturday was absolute perfection, a bright yellow sun and perfect white, poofy clouds. Both of Meghan’s parents, as well as her aunt and grandmother, showed up at the salon bright and early to see Meghan begin her day. And from that moment on, everything was perfect. Meghan’s dress was GORGEOUS and looked like it was made just for her. The reception was full of heart-felt words, tears, (awesome food!) and, of course, some major partying that went late into the night! We had a blast!

Meghan and Brandon- Thank you for letting us capture this important event in your lives. We were so amazed by your closeness to your families and friends. It was easy to see that you are both loved and adored by everyone around you. Congratulations to you both, and we hope you have an amazing time in Cancun!!!

Wedding Photography at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center, Indiana University – Bloomington, Indiana

Holly and David are one of the coolest (not to mention smashingly good-looking) couples we’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting. Their wedding took place on Sunday at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center on I.U. campus and was SO much fun! I loved every bit of their wedding, and their coordinator, the amazing April Foster, did a great job helping pull the details together. Holly and David’s family and friends were some of the nicest, most genuine people we’ve met, and the party was a blast! Also, one of David’s groomsmen was none other than Aaron Willcox, a wedding photog and all-around cool guy from San Diego. Aaron, you were a blast to hang out with (even though you shoot Nikon).

Okay, so here are some reasons why Holly and David’s wedding was so amazingly awesome:

1. Um…look at the pictures…they’re like models!

2. Holly chose peacock feathers to base the colors and decor on. GORGEOUS!!! I loooved the centerpieces and bouquets. (Also, towards the end of the reception, the peacock feathers mysteriously disappeared from the centerpieces and showed up coming out the backs of peoples shirts and pants!)

3. David and his family are very athletic and competitive and all ran a 5K the morning of his wedding! Seriously…a 5K!?
Holly and David – Wow, what can we say about you guys. You are so amazing together. We love the way that Holly smiled from ear to ear every time she looked at David, and we love the way that David cried before the ceremony as he rehearsed his vows. Thanks you two for being so awesome and for letting us capture your day! We hope you two have fun in Hawaii!!!
