Post by David – “I don’t think I’ll cry,” said Matt with an honest look on his face. “No,” he continued, “I think it’ll probably be her that cries.” To which one of the groomsmen looked me dead in the eye and said, “He’ll cry.” True to the groomsman’s word, and also to Matt’s, they both cried up at the alter. They were both so happy and excited to be there and it seemed that the rule of the day was that if you’re about to cry you should make yourself laugh. Natalie and her bridesmaids laughed a lot during her ceremony.

There was more laughter at the reception too. It was an evening filled with heartfelt toasts and lots and lots of dancing. We were also happy to see our friend Chad there with the FreezeFramez Photobooth and couldn’t help but snap a couple photos of … people taking their photos? Does that count as cheating?

By the end of the night we were exhausted but so excited about the photos we were able to capture throughout the day. Thanks Natalie and Matt for making our jobs easy, for having so much fun and enjoying your day with every ounce of your energy. We wished the night could have gone on longer and if you guys are ever up for more photos, you know who to call.

Wedding Photography at the Fields in Bloomington, Indiana (Post by Cathy) – Many of you may know that David and I recently moved from Bloomington, Indiana to be a little more central for our Chicago and Indianapolis clients. So we were so excited to get to travel back to B-town for Chelsea and Andy’s wedding (and are always happy to go back there again, hint hint). We made sure to get to town early enough to eat dinner at our favorite restaurant, Mandalay, and then had the best lox bagels ever at Bloomington Bagel Company for breakfast on Saturday. Yum!!! (Although I think I may have had yucky salmon breath all day  >.< )

So despite having to listen to our constant reminiscing about Bloomington as we walked IU campus, Chelsea and Andy were so much fun to work with and so easy to photograph. They were natural with each other in every way and so obviously in love, which made our job easy. And best of all, they were so excited to be getting married. Chelsea designed her wedding with so many cute details and unique touches (like an activity table for the kids and flourless chocolate cake and cheesecake in place of a traditional wedding cake), but my absolute favorite part were Chelsea and Andy’s personalized vows, which were so beautifully and genuinely written. Sometimes during a really emotional ceremony, David and I are reminded of our own wedding, and we have to pause for a moment and give each other a knowing look that kind of says, “Aww… I remember this.”  This was one of those weddings.

Chelsea and Andy – Thank you two so much for having us capture your day. Your family and friends were so kind and welcoming, and the day could not have been more awesome.

PhotoBooth on June 12th, 2010 at a backyard wedding in Bloomington, Indiana - (Post by David) We had so much fun with Anna and Sean and their guests at our Photobooth. It was beyond hysterical to see their friends and family go nuts with the props that Anna provided. We like every Photobooth to be unique so the couple can provide their own props and gag items or the friends and family can grab whatever is nearby and drag it in. Remember our umbrella we brought to the wedding but never needed? Yah well.. it was needed in the Photobooth.

Apparently myopic vikings wielded tennis rackets when they got married…?

We were totally shocked to see this gal who was a bridesmaid at Anna and Braden’s wedding!

Summer and Josh’s Trash the Dress Session on April 2nd, 2010 – Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington, Indiana — It was so awesome to get to meet up with these two again, post-wedding (check out their Crown Point Wedding post)! Since Summer didn’t want to so-to-speak “trash” her dress completely, we decided to go to I.U. campus and take some relaxed portraits of her and her hubby Josh. It was a beautiful evening and these two looked hot! The campus was a little crowded on such a gorgeous night, so the catcalls of onlookers were endless! Several different people even asked to have their photo taken with the couple.

The session was a blast and I have to say that I highly recommend this to other brides. Its a great way to get more pictures of you in the most important dress you’ll ever wear without the stress and time constraints of the wedding day. Anyhoo, on with the photos!

The Tudor Room – Bloomington, Indiana

We first met Cassi and Patrick at Pourhouse Coffee in Bloomington, Indiana which is one of the spots we like to meet brides. It was there that we learned all about this awesome duo. As the details of the wedding slowly dripped away like the coffee machines behind us the awesomeness of their day began to unfold. Evening outdoor wedding, beautiful reception, fun at a salon, and yes, even karaoke. I knew we were in for a total blast of a day.

I had no idea we’d make two new friends.

After meeting at the salon we snapped off photos of the hair cutting, and make-up making. After that we headed off to IU campus to get ready for the big day where in a beautiful, perfectly lit courtyard we saw the flowers that had been arranged so beautifully, the bright white chairs gleaming in the sun, their kind of blind dog as the ring-bearer, the light just going over the edge of the wall and giving us a photographer’s little place of heaven to shoot in..

These two had been engaged for four years and it was a long time coming so all the friends and family who were gathered seemed like they had been on the edge of their seat forever. The smiles that filled the wedding got to me, as always, and Cathy and I knew we were going to have one heck of an awesome day.

We laughed and joked with them as we took their formals, some of our favorites, and did a little intimate portrait session right there in the alley leading out of the courtyard. Their lips were magnetic.

We headed to the reception were little shotglasses of hot and sour soup, and mashed potato martinis were carried about. The chocolate chocolate cake screamed my name. Then the singing began. Seeing the groom sing “You’re as cold as ice” is by far the craziest, funniest, and somehow most touching thing I’ve seen at a wedding. It was what draw her to him, and that’s what made it special.

At the end of the day after all the hugs Cat and I snuck in a quick dance (shh, don’t tell anyone!) and packed up our things to go. As we exited we watched the two still holding on to one another and sneaking glances when they were greeting family members from across the room. We remembered what their take-away was at that moment, and it was truly them. The couple had gotten little jars of honey at a local market and had custom labels made for them. In the end it truly summed up the day. Sweet.

With a wedding tomorrow we figured we’d show another little insight into what we do for fun.

We met them at Ashenda Ethiopian, one of our favorite restaurants. We never expect people to like all the crazy foods that we do, and so far Jenny‘s been the only one to be crazy about crazy food like us!

Amanda and Kyle were also nice enough to let us borrow a couple of their lenses we’ve been thinking about purchasing to use at our wedding this weekend. We’re going to be bringing along a new wedding photographer, Nicole Neff, so she can see how we do our thing, as well as settle her nerves before she shoots her first wedding in September. We’re so excited to have her!

After dinner, the four of us walked around a little and took some fun night time photos. They’ll be having some photos up eventually to, so we’re very excited to see how they turned out. We ended up swapping cameras around so I still haven’t seen all the photos we took. LOL!

Wedding Photography in Bloomington, Indiana.

I can’t tell you how much David and I were looking forward to this wedding. Molly and Neal are an awesome couple with so much faith and so much love. We got to know them when we met with them way back early in the year and had a total blast chatting it up with them for 3 hours! They are both easy going and so much fun to hang out with and have become awesome friends. We took their engagement session this past April on I.U.’s campus and knew then that their wedding was going to be lots of fun and full of love.

Neal has been working and going to school in Evansville, while Molly has been living a few hours away here in Bloomington, so being apart was tough for them both and they’ve been super-anxious for this day to finally come

First I went to meet with Molly at the Salon, where David dropped me off and headed over to meet with the guys at the hotel while they got ready. We were so excited about this because it was the first time we had the chance to shoot the guys getting ready in the morning (something we’ve been wanting to do) as most times the guys are all ready and put together before the bride has even started! (So keep that in mind guys!!) Anyways, on with the photos!

From the salon, we headed over to Bloomington Evangelical Community Church to get ready for the ceremony.

Formals were scheduled to be at noon! That morning flew by like crazy.

Molly’s mom did an AMAZING job on her makeup!

Molly’s red and white dress was the same dress that her mom had worn at her wedding, and it looked AMAZING on her! I love the back:

David’s favorite!

These kids kept taking their own photos! It was SO CUTE!

Their yum-yum-yummy chocolate cake was from BLU Boy Chocolate Cafe in Bloomington (btw-they have amazing hand painted chocolates) and was decorated with fresh flowers. All of the bouquets and flowers were actually done by Molly’s aunt (pictured above) at Schulz’s Florist in Louisville, KY, and they turned out gorgeous. I was even given one of the arrangements from the sanctuary to take home to brighten up our kitchen.

Molly’s cousin Ashley (at the front of the bunch) was determined to catch that bouquet! And so she did

I almost forgot to mention this! Molly’s dad, being the coolest guy ever totally blew us away! He had the idea of taking the photos we took for their engagement session and making little prints of them that were given to each person at a table. Each table had a different set, like trading cards. How cool (and flattering) is that???

Okay, so I have a confession to make. This isn’t my idea. >.< I stole it from the absolutely amazing Ann Hamilton (a San Fran Photographer that we absolutely LOVE). Forgive me Ann, but this idea was too good to pass up.

Because of all these hits recently we just had to update our photo upload service from Standard to Pro today because we exceeded our bandwidth!!! (How cool is that?!) July 6, 2008 – Bloomington, Indiana and Lake Monroe State Park.

Stacy and Bobby. Cat and I met these two way back, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when we were just starting out. Despite being new they loved our work and our laid back appeal and went with it. These two were actually the first couple we sat down and had a meeting with so suffice it to say we think the world of them for not running the first time we met them with our crazy-nervousness.

Now they’re getting married in SEPTEMBER (thanks for calling me out on saying August, Stacy, see! I told you I do it!!) and we can’t believe how fast time has gone by! Stacy regularly checks in with me and asks how things are going, tells us how much she loves the photos and how she can’t wait to get her and Bobby’s taken. Finally the time came and the photos were taken yesterday with firework explosions still ringing in our brains.

I have some amazingly embarassing photos of these two dancing under this sign like crazy people…

…but I think I’ll save those photos for the wedding.

So Cute!

After spending a bit of time downtown we headed off to Monroe Lake State Park.

Our photofriend, Lan Bui, told us that blurry is the new cool. I couldn’t agree more!

How often does one get to shoot on a grounded dock??

Ok, so I have to tell a story with the next and last photo.

It’s not that amazing, nor one of our best photos ever, but like with many just-nice-photographs there is sometimes a fantastic story behind them. We all got in my car (another brave couple) headed back towards Bloomington. As we were driving back from Lake Monroe to Bloomington, we had to cross a nearly one mile (Cat says I’m exagerating) bridge over the lake. There is no shoulder, just a guard rail and the water on either side. Cars regularly cross this bridge.

As we’re driving I notice the sun just starting to head down over the hillside and I look in my rear-view mirror and ask the two if they know how to do a Chinese Fire Drill. (This is that stupid thing where you jump out of your car at a stop light and run around it and get back in before the light changes.) Except this time, there is no stoplight. There is no shoulder. Just the bridge, us and the sun which has about 10 seconds before it’s gone. They nod, I slam on the breaks and we all jump outside to catch three photos before the sun is literally gone and before we get run over by any cars. We had about three seconds to do all this. We didn’t even have time to set these two up, they just went with it!

In the end I think it explains why we love couples who love us enough to risk life and limb and possible road-pancake to get a photo, even if it doesn’t turn out perfect. With that I close with the photo, joyful in knowing we’ve made another set of friends as crazy as us that we hope to see for generations to come.
