Post by David – Oh that first wedding of the year. Well technically Sarah and Simon were the first of the year since their wedding was on New Years, but we’re talking first full wedding day of the year. Don’t get me wrong the couple of months we usually get off in the winter (like teacher’s in the summer) is a wonderful break and enjoy the cold weather. But as the days get closer we get more and more excited for the wedding season to begin. Missy and Tu’s wedding is going to be one we remember for a long time. Maybe it was the small (very small ) glass of whiskey the guys shared with me that morning without even asking. Maybe it was how these two did anything and everything we asked of them for portraits. Maybe it was their awesome church that had absolutely zero restrictions on photography (thank you). Maybe it was the fabulous music (and awesome DJ), the great dancing, the awesome parents, constant chatter of grandparents in foreign languages, or maybe it was just one of those days that seemed to go perfect. For me it was all of those things that made it special.

Missy and Tu, we love you guys. Thank you so very much for having us to your wedding, sharing popcorn with us and to the guys in the morning for laughing at my bad jokes. Thanks for making us feel welcome and we hope to see you two again many many times over.

Post by David - We’ve been so excited to post this wedding but because of our big move and our website redesign, the blog has been a bit behind. A special thanks to Sarah and our other clients who were so patient to be featured on our website! We love you guys.

That said. We love, absolutely love, New Year’s weddings. I think a part of that is because taking photos of people out on the dance floor going crazy is quite possibly our favorite part of the day. With weddings on New Year’s we get quite a few of those images. We get to see people come out of their shells, having an absolute blast, and sometimes during the last fleeting moments it can get pretty emotional. Sarah and Simon’s wedding definitely was an emotional one. Whether it was before she went down the aisle, dancing while her brother played an awesome piece on his guitar, and counting down the minutes until the end of 2011. It got to be a bit much for her and she completely lost it. Just what we like to take photos of. These two were so wonderful to work with and we loved the hours of partying throughout the night that we had the joy of being a part of.

Post by David – Laura and Siddique. I’ve been trying my best to think of a way to express our gratitude to you for having us as your photographers. I’ve been thinking of ways to best describe your event, that illustrates the fun and excitement we had every second of every moment of your days. How sad we are that you two are moving to Boston. How much we loved meeting your families. Three days of intense shooting, non-stop, all day long. Your wedding was what inspired us to create a completely new way of doing our bookings, so we could get more weddings like yours where we were there every waking moment, capturing the little things and the things often missed and forgotten. Your wedding was life altering and incredible and we loved every second.

From the day we shot their engagement session in Lincoln Park, Chicago we knew we would love working with these two. They both knew what they wanted, they were characters, and they were real. They love two of our favorite things — food and travel. I swear every time I go on Laura’s facebook page there is a new vacation photo! And keep in mind that Laura is one heck of a photographer herself! Not only that but they hired on our dream team to help take care of their wedding. The details that Yanni and his team put together were absolutely incredible (as always). Kasia who was a last minute addition, did an amazing job at hair and makeup, just like she did for Kaitlin and Vaibhav. They also hired Vlad Chaloupka who is quite possibly one of the best wedding cinematographers in the country (and a super nice guy). We also got introduced to Rehana with DP Event Management who did a stellar job at coordinating their wedding with well over 800 people on one of the days.

Yes. 800 people. Seriously.

Laura and Siddique – thank you again so much for having us as a part of your wedding, for being so loving and kind, for your generous spirits and for being so wonderful to work with. Next time we go out to the east coast we’re going to make it a point to stop in Boston. We’re going to hit you guys up for somewhere to eat and we hope you’ll join us. Thanks again!

Post by David – Sarah and Tim were perfect for us from the start. These guys backpack, love food, love to travel, have climbed mountains, and drive a Subaru (we love our Forester too, it’s like a second child next to our cat, Charlie Anne). There wedding day was a lot less of a climb though. I think the trek for them from start to finish was pretty simple and maybe you could say the wedding day for them was base camp and the rest of their lives together would be going to the summit. Not only that but these guys had two of our past couples at their wedding — Chelsea and Andy (whose wedding we met them at), as well as David and Lizzie — who is directly connected to what… six weddings now? That’s got to be some kind of record… and I think only Amanda, Meredith or Summer might come close to that? We have to figure this out at some point. We had the time of our lives with these two from early in the morning all the way to their sparkler exit. We loved being able to go back to where we lived for three years — Bloomington Indiana (before moving to Chicago last year). And these two, just like that city, made us feel at home the entire time. Thank you so much for making us a part of your lives and we hope to see you guys at many more weddings in the future.

Post by David – Oh Angela. Angela Angela Angela. By far you win the award for the year of best expressions, and most emotions in one wedding day. See the thing is. I know that every one of our photographer friends who reads this blog entry is going to be totally jealous of us, because of those emotions. Angela was the kind of bride who wore her emotions on her sleeve all day long. That’s just how we like them. After three or four pictures you know exactly the kind of fun loving, big hearted person she is. And mike? Well he’s the strong silent type. It reminds me a lot of how Cathy and I are. One smooth and easy going, the other full of life and energy. But both of them with such a deep passion for one another.

This brings me too my personal thoughts on photography. For me it’s not necessarily “the first kiss” that’s one of the most important images of the day. For me it’s sometimes the moment right after. Case in point, with all the emotions of the day my favorite had to be Mike finally losing it up there at the alter right after their “first kiss” (see below).

A special thank you to the limo driver for helping my wife hold an off camera flash during some of their portraits while I was inside getting detail shots and covering the cocktail hour. I definitely think that goes above and beyond the call. Don’t you?

Post by David – Jena heard about us through a coworker of hers, Debra. We’d shot her wedding in New York last year. We were absolutely thrilled to find out that we would be shooting another wedding in New York when she booked with us. My best friend, Brian – the best man at my own wedding – lives out there and it’s always been one of my favorite cities to visit. We decided it would make the most sense for us to stay right at the Allegria Hotel where the wedding was to take place. And let me tell you that place was absolutely STUNNING. The staff is absolutely wonderful and they even have jazz nights down at the bar with live music and martini’s. That might have been what sold me completely! If you ever want a little vacation I’d seriously check it out as it has one heck of a view, and the area is super nice with boardwalks and sandy beaches. It was a side of New York that I’d never seen before!

To say that we had fun with Jena and Rocco would be an understatement. Let me first preface by saying that they had the absolute BEST DJ I have ever had the joy of listening to. This guy could seriously spin and had the place going way way way into the wee hours of the morning. I seriously felt like I was in a club and the guests seemed to think so as well! Their venue was absolutely stunning. The lights, the crystals, and all of the other finishing touches were flawless to say the least. I remember heading into the room while everyone else enjoyed the cocktail hour. I called up Cat (who was taking pictures of the guests) and said, “Oh my gosh, you have to take a quick peek in here and check this place out. It’s crazy awesome in here.” Little did I know the entire design idea was all Jena. WOW! The people that went with the wedding were just as beautiful. Jena and Rocco were nothing but sweet to us and we still feel so honored to have been a part of their big day. Thanks again so much for inviting us come to your after party. Discovering that cucumber martini was one of the best things that ever happened to me!

Post by David – I’ve only ever been to California once before. I’ve been to over 30 states and yet somehow California has always evaded that list. Let me also say that I am absolutely in love with the state. The combination of mountains and ocean, two of my favorite landmarks, make it something I could easily get used to living in. Many of our friends live out there, including Ben and Erin Chrisman (who were kind enough to let us stay with them for a couple days in San Francisco near the redwoods, STUNNING views — thanks again guys, we miss you!) and it would be quite easy for me to simply drop everything and move out there. The incredible food we tasted didn’t help much either. I’ve genuinely considered it once or twice, and I probably would if it wasn’t for how far we would be from our families. Who knows. Maybe someday.

That said, my second time to California for Angela and Ryan’s wedding was definitely on my list of favorite trips ever. Not only because of how much fun we had while we were out there but because of how much of a joy their wedding was. Everything went to plan, probably in thanks to Satra — their awesome coordinator who we totally love, but more than that these two were so laid back and just excited about getting married (exactly the type of couple we look for). Seeing the look on Angela’s face when Ryan surprised her with a singer he’d flown out from New York (that they’d once danced to) was definitely my highlight for the evening. A close second would definitely be when we snagged these two and dragged them out to the back of their reception site to take some portraits in the sunset overlooking the mountains and San Jose. It was beyond incredible. I think Cathy was the one who finally let them go back inside to party. It was tough to stop taking pictures out there!

Thanks Angela and Ryan for being such a pleasure to work with. We hope to see you again someday!

You guys had us booked less than a month after their wedding and I can’t believe we had to wait nearly two full years to the day for your wedding day. Sure along the way we shot your engagement session in Jacksonville, Florida. And then we did another engagement session in French Lick, Indiana. You’ve seen our styles change, seen us move through three different cities and been with us every step of the way. Post by David – So let me start by saying that this is the third wedding I’ve shot with Josh’ family. It’s always an absolute blast every time I get to a wedding with siblings. I know that I’m going to recognize almost half of the people there. We’ve always had so much fun with their family — from Meghan and Brandon, to Ashley and Jake and now to Megan and Josh. That all being said, Megan and Josh were the stars of the show for this wedding and we had such a fantastic time with both of them, especially so because their portraits were scheduled right at sunset which made for some of my favorite photos of the year, like the one above. What I love even more was how excited Megan was for her blog entry to go up even after she’d seen all of her photos. The blog is just something we do for fun after all, to showcase our latest work, and has never been a big deal for us! After our big move we set the blog and the website on the back burner for a while until we were all settled into our new place. We were so moved by how much our clients missed reading the regular updates. So with that said we’re going t0 blog a lot this year and you’re going to see some personal blog entries in here from time to time as well, just like we used to back in the day.

Post by David – Katie and Ray’s session ended up being more than one day because every time we tried to schedule their session the weather would disagree with us. Well we finally had enough and went for it. That day turned out to be a horribly wet day, blisteringly cold, and my fingertips nearly froze themselves off. So after 20 minutes of trying REALLY hard to make it work we gave up and rescheduled. Thankfully even though it was a little bit colder for their next session we at least didn’t have any wet weather. These two were SUCH good sports and we had so much fun working with them. Katie and Ray are so cute together, constantly making silly faces, laughing and smiling. We barely even had to direct them at all and they were non stop the whole time lovey dovey. Just the way we like it.

Katie has been so excited to be her photos on our blog and it reminds me of when we were waiting for our own blog entry. So here you go Katie! ENJOY! We can’t wait for your wedding and we so look forward to seeing you guys again!!!!
