August 12, 2008 – Louisville, Kentucky and August 14, 2008 – Bloomington, Indiana.
Cathy and I first met Maria and Isaac at Maria’s apartment where her adorable dog greeted us at the door. They told us about their middle-of-the-week wedding that had to be planned just so because of when some their family was available as well as their ceremony site. As a result, their wedding ceremony was scheduled on a Tuesday evening in Louisville, KY while their reception was going to be on Thursday here in Bloomington, IN. I also remember that we met them on the weekend of the flood and it took us a half hour to get to there even though it was only short distance from our home! I was hoping we wouldn’t have the same problem on their wedding day!
After we took their engagement session which they totally loved (more on that later) we got an email from Maria. She was worried about us coming to their wedding and whether or not we should just come to the reception since photos aren’t allowed in a Mormon temple. We told her not to fear, that we’d get some photos outside of the temple, and get the formals out of the way there too (little did I know how AWESOME the family would be about formals! more on that later too!).
Fast forward to Tuesday last week when we drove down to Louisville.
Like I said, I was worried history would repeat itself and as we drove over to Kentucky we started getting all these ROAD CLOSED signs in front of us which kinda sorta started to freak us out, (though Maria got this super-calm phone message of me telling her no problemo, lol). Thankfully though it was only about a one-mile, fifteen minute delay and we had left ourselves more than enough time just in case!
While we waited for Maria and Isaac to get married we scoped the area outside, which was beautiful, and took some photos! After the ceremony they came out and we snapped away at the formals. Her family was SUPER fast and was ready for us cue-line style to take photos and we seriously got through them in like, 15 minutes. CRAZY!![]()
Anyways, on with the photos!![]()

Just married!

This is the AMAZING Olivia. She was seriously the most photo-loving kid we’ve EVER seen. I’m not kidding! Everytime she’d start to cry we’d point the camera at her and she’d start laughing hysterically and get all happy. She even ran over and got in front of the family portraits a couple times!
We loved her!![]()

All the other kids were super-photo-happy too!![]()

Fast forward two days. We met up with Maria and Isaac at the beautiful Deer Park Manor for their wedding reception, which they told us was going to be like a nice open house where friends and family could come and go at their leisure. It totally felt like a big fun family reunion and was so sweet! They also had some of the most yummy hors-devours ever!![]()
We got some cool detail shots before the guests arrived!![]()

Cathy and I are starting to get a thing for blurry motion shots. We just love how they feel.![]()

Since Maria and Isaac were already married they could get ready together!![]()

Poor Isaac was sick as a dog for his reception but was a total trooper and we would have never known unless he told us!

Maria’s mom was a total stitch!
It was a little humid in the prep room, and she kept standing in front of the box fan going “Aaaahh..”

Isaac’s parents were super-sweet and laid back!![]()

Before the reception started we dragged them off for another portrait session. You wouldn’t believe the huge field of tall grasses they had. We HAD to shoot there!![]()

We’re getting so obsessed with B&W lately.
Can you tell?

A lot of people seem to think I’m the one that gets people to laugh in our photos because a lot of people think Cat’s really quiet. Not true!!! Here’s an example of the my amazing wife and her mad skills.![]()

As we left the tall grass Cat snagged this awesome photo just before Maria stepped on a Hornet’s nest. Luckily no one was stung but if any of you know me and bees you can guess how hysterical I got. >.<

The punch provided there was SUPER-yummy!![]()

Maria used to be a florist so she put together these cute little planter centerpieces herself.![]()

Proof that some kids do like broccoli.![]()

“Olivia The Amazing” strikes again!!!![]()

After this photo was taken the little girl on the left brought me a flower. So cute!![]()

My favorite photo of the day. I love this.
She was showing me her bouquet.

Maria’s Dad got me laughing so hard, “Babies like me because I look like them!”

I had to save the following shot for last. As the party died down I noticed something moving among the flowers outside. Without thinking I whipped out my telephoto from my Shootsac, and quietly waited with one of the party people, Robert, who’s been teaching himself how to use a Nikon DSLR and I offered some tips (we LOVE helping new photographers.
) while we waited for something to come back. After about five or ten minutes we caught something out of the corner of our eye.
This was the result.

Update: For fun Robert gave us the link for the photo he took! Nice job!![]()
Maria and Isaac are such a super-cool couple and we loved shooting their wedding and reception. They’ve been so kind to us and we’ll be seeing Maria again soon. She decided to have her Bridal session post wedding sometime in September so you’ll be seeing her again for sure!
She also went through the trouble of making a super sweet photo album with her mad scrapbooking skills into a guest book for people to sign. This was the second wedding we’ve been to now where our engagement session photos were a part of the wedding and it just makes our day. We can tell ourselves till we’re blue in the face how much we rock the lens, but until we hear it from the bride and groom, and their family we never really believe it. It’s in being a part of their day and being able to capture their wedding, to tell a story through photography that makes it all worth while. We love knowing that years from now people will be able to look at the photos we’ve taken and be able to remember one of the best days of their life.
Thanks for reading! -David.

Robert Baxter - A beautiful event. I wished I could have seen the wedding. As for the photography, also excellent. Notice the difference between a vastly superior camera + supertelephoto lens in the picture above and my own little Nikon kit camera.

I’m so buying a telephoto lens.
Congratulations again to the newlyweds!
Melissa McClure - Great job you two! I love the field photos and the hummingbird one rocks!!
Lori Herrin - So I finally got off the recliner (due to disk problems) and had to look at your blog. Of course, I looked in the early am today at work, just in case. Anyhow you two just keep getting BETTER AND BETTER! They were wonderful! David – your photo of the hummingbird – I NEED IT FOR A CHRISTMAS PRESENT. And you said it was just OK! ::LOL::
Love you both!
Mom
And yes….. Cat is not as quiet as she appears and has a wonderful laugh and sense of humor!!!
Nicole - Wow, you guys did it again! I love the picture that Cat took of Maria before stepping on the hornet’s nest. So simple, but what a statement it makes! And for some reason, I also really really really love the punch picture. Making my mouth water right now!
Lori Herrin - So once again I’m back. Just got done showing Lou the photos and we both agreed our favorites were the 1st one of the church steeple and clouds, kids do like broccoli, (if I spelled it right ::LOL::), the little boy and girl w/flowers, the little girl showing her flowers. And as usual, can’t seem to ever get through reading your entry and looking at the pictures without feeling very proud of you and Cat’s photo ability and being tearful with the words that always seem to touch our hearts and pictures that touch our souls.
As always – love you lots!
Mom
Khara Plicanic - Great work you two… as usual!
Maya - You guys these rock again! I love that you’re doing some more black and white! I also love that you drove down to KY to take photos outside of the temple. So many photographers wouldn’t do that…awesome!
Anna (& Braden) - Hooray. I really love this shoot. Top three, excluding the fantastic clouds and the hummingbird would have to be the first black and white little girl following, the black and white where they’re just looking at each other and the pre-hornet nest.
Really nice job, I love how they feel so comfortable and beautiful.
Heidi - Great photos! I really love the 2nd shot~ bw with the little cutie in step with the adult in front of her and then the other bw with the little girl on the seat eating a cookie… looks so 1940ish.
Shawn Kloster - Awesomeness! I love that color shot of everyone sitting down. So many great elements variety there! Also diggin’ the new blog look. Mad props C+D!
elizabeth christense - Beautiful!! I wish we could have been there! Congratulations, we love you!
Orbie Pullen - Way to capture some great moments! Great stuff C+D.
Anna (& Braden) - Looks like a great trip…but no pugs?
carlie - those photos of the couple in the field are precious!!
ROMAN Francisco - That first shot of the sky with scattered clouds is awesome. Very surreal! You guys are good in catching the moment.
Sue - Man, you guys DO rock the lens! Just what Maria and Isaac deserved! A lovely wedding for a lovely couple so beautifully captured!
Mrs. H-B - I can’t believe I never commented here. Thanks for taking such wonderful photos of our wedding day. It was such a blur and it’s great to look back now and see what happened!
