As a reminder of the above to our clients, we’ll be putting print and album fulfillment on hold until we get back as we won’t have the MacPro with us, just Cathy’s laptop and 4,000 lbs of camera equipment. We will however be doing our best to reply within 24 – 72 hours and will be answering calls on my cell 812-361-9900 as often as is possible.

We can’t wait to be there and are super-dooper pumped to go. If anyone wants to get together please just drop us a comment, or leave us an email and we’ll set up a time to get together.

We just wanted to drop a little message on here to let everyone know that we’re going to be gone in Las Vegas at WPPI 2010, getting our photographer partying on. While we’re there we’re going to be checking out the Southern Weddings Magazine Party, Airhorns and Lasers, along with an awesome workshop led by the ever amazing Bui Bros, our second time at the [b] Party, perhaps getting together with our Photog Shootout friends, and lastly the second annual WPPI dinner party that was such a fun success last year (which is still in the planning process, just like it was last year!!! ). We’ll be on the trade show floor hopefully meeting up with friends new and old, so be sure to say hi if you see us! I know for sure you’ll be able to find us hanging out around the PickPic, ShootQ and the Vision Art booths. We’re also really looking forward to finally getting to meet our friends up in Canada from Last Forty Percent, as well as our good friend Kellie Kano, both of which we’ve been talking to online forever but never having gotten the chance to meet in person. We’re so excited!!!

After Vegas we’ll be flying straight to Florida for a destination wedding in Captiva Florida, though we might spend a couple extra days on the beach to get ourselves the last chance to relax before the wedding season gets crazy. We only have around 5 or 6 dates left for 2010 so we know it’s going to be a long one, and 2011 is already starting to book up.

Because we’ll be traveling from March 5th until the 15th please don’t expect us to be able to fulfill prints during that time, but if you do make any orders it will be our priority one, the moment we step back onto our doorstep! I could say that there have been a lot of photographers out there that have influenced how Cathy and I run our business. We’ve had a ton of help from a lot of amazing people out there, who’ve been kind enough to offer their advice and share ideas. That said, there has been no influence on our business that even comes close to my step-dad and how he runs his veterinary hospital. Herrin Animal Hospital has been in business in Bloomington, Illinois for over 30 years and has served thousands of clients. Lou and my mom, Lori, have run this business with one business model: Clients are part of your family. Treat them like they are a family member, always do everything you can for them, always be understanding of issues that your clients have, no matter how big or small. Do these things and people will continue coming back to you and your business.

I’ve looked at the clinic as the basis of our business. Everything I do for our clients is because of the example that Lou has given me. I still remember seeing how happy people were to see my family at the clinic when they came in, not just because they knew their dogs and cats would be safe with Dr. Lou, but because they were genuinely excited and happy to see him. He was, and always will be their friend. People come up to him at restaurants and give him hugs, they wave to him when he’s driving one of his cars, and they send piles and piles of Christmas cards.

A few months before they were to retire, my mom decided to plan a surprise retirement party and put a small ad in the newspaper inviting all of their past and current clients. I gave a call to Terry Mautner out of Indianapolis to see if he could DJ the event (Terry has become a good friend since working Danielle and Lucas’ wedding because of the awesome job he did for them). So, the food was prepared and the event was set. The question was, would anyone come?

Boy did they. Over 300 people showed up that afternoon, all piling into the room we’d rented to await the arrival of Dr. Lou (who had been tricked into thinking he was attending a friend’s birthday party). As soon as he rounded the corner to enter the room, we all yelled in unison, tears already forming in our eyes, “Surprise!” A flood of people rushed at Lou, forming a line for the chance to congratulate him, coming with stories, tears, and hugs for him and my mom for taking such good care of their pets. Seeing these people, these ‘clients’, many of which I’ve known for years, it was honestly hard to tell them apart from the family members of mine that came. It was like seeing people from our family, far off relatives that I’d never met, that Mom and Lou had known for years. My goal in my business is to have that kind of relationship with our clients and peers. We do our best to extend the same kindness and love to everyone we meet, and it’s what we strive for.

Congratulations, Lou and Lori (Mom)! We are so excited that you guys can finally enjoy the freedom of retirement. We love you both and can never thank you enough for the example of love and kindness that you have given us.

This room was COMPLETELY full. We think it may have been a fire hazard. Oh well!

It was too much for Lou.

My mom made it through her speech without crying too much, but Lou didn’t make it.

A special thank you again to Terry for playing some great music all night long, and to all of the clients who came to see my step-dad and mom and wish them luck in their retirement. On a side note, Luigi surprised Mom with a trip/cruise to Costa Rica for Christmas. I am so excited for them, but honestly, I just wish I could just go with them to take pictures.

Style Me Pretty – Favorite Weddings of 2009 III

We’d like to send out a special thank you to the people at Style Me Pretty’s Wedding Blog, specifically Libby (congrats again!), for picking Annie’s and Josh’s gorgeous wedding at The Palmer House in Chicago, Illinois as one of their favorite weddings of 2009. We absolutely love Style Me Pretty and read their blog almost religiously. We think weddings are pretty awesome and we usually stumble upon some new photographers from time to time and love seeing the different points of view that other photographers have.

What an amazing couple of week. Not only did we have Anna and Braden’s Indianapolis wedding featured on The Bride’s Cafe, but we also just had Kate and Nathan’s Iowa vineyard wedding featured on Clover and Bee!

I still miss that wedding. I miss the vineyard, the smell of the freshly cooking seafood, the wind over the rolling hills. It was an awesome wedding and now seeing it again on one of our favorite midwest wedding blogs, just brings those memories back all in a rush for me. We are SO excited to tell everyone that we’ve been featured on one of our favorite photographer websites, the [b] school. For those of you that don’t know what it is, it’s a site dedicated to helping photographers connect, share ideas, network, etc and we love being a part of it. We’ve always done our part to be active members of the community and Becker, an amazing photographer in California, who runs the [b] school saw fit to feature us on the blog. We’re the 5th photographer member to be on it! How cool is that?!?!

The kind words of praise and congrats we’ve gotten thus far have been awesome, and overwhelming. We’d love it if you went and checked it out, and if you’re a photographer and not on it yet, you need to be. It has helped our business grow SO MUCH and we honestly would not be where we are today without it.

Just a little insight into the personal side of our life. Cathy and I regularly attend PUG meetings. These are for people who use Pictage with their business. Cathy and I love to network with photographers all over the place. We’ve never seen other photographers as competition, but rather just another place to share ideas, gain insights, and better ourselves. We love meeting with people. It’s a fun chance for us to get together, have some fun, socialize, and sometimes do little fun open photo sessions. There were cameras everywhere!

We’ll be hosting our own photography group meeting (Indy Photog Shootout, a part of the nationwide group, Photog Shootout) on August 12th at our friend Amanda’s place in Indianapolis. If you’re a photographer in the midwest area and want to know more or attend the meeting please send us an email and we’ll pass on the information to you!
