I love that shadowed hallway shot. There was something about it that was eerie AND beautiful at the same time. Eerily beautiful? That’s what I’m going with.

Jessika Feltz - January 11, 2010 - 12:42 am

Fantastic job, guys!! Loved the ones by the Christmas tree!! They looked so happy throughout the whole day!

Dad - January 10, 2010 - 11:16 pm

Definitely difficult to pick a favorite. Loved the colors and the shadowing of the feet on the hard wood floor, the intensity of the two in a tango and the gentleman holding the strings. However my favorite was the far away shot in the darkened hallway that was both romantic and mysterious. Well done.

Karalee - January 10, 2010 - 5:36 pm

Such a beautiful wedding and so stunningly captured. They look so perfectly happy :)

Maria Barker - January 10, 2010 - 2:29 pm

Stunning! I can’t believe they pulled together such a spectacular wedding in just four weeks. Beautiful!!

Jeanne - January 10, 2010 - 2:19 pm

Amazing photos Holly. You guys look so happy! Wish I could have been there, but these pics help me share the moment.
Love you tons!

Sharon - January 10, 2010 - 12:54 pm

What a teaser! Now I can’t wait to see all the wedding photos. Fantastic job, Cathy and David. It was a fun wedding, with many personal, precious moments. You caught some we didn’t know about. Love it, love it!

Lori Herrin - January 10, 2010 - 12:31 pm

It is totally impossible to pick out a favorite because they were all so well done. However, the gentlemen holding on to the strings of Holly’s dress and his expression was PRICELESS!!
Love you! Mom

Janice - January 10, 2010 - 12:24 pm

Stunning…when the subjects are perfect, so are the photos!

Christine Elizabeth - January 10, 2010 - 11:26 am

Fabulous! I love them! I can’t pick a fave, but I really love the groom and generations ;) Those moments always get me! And the black and white of them 3 from the end.

You guys totally rock! ;) Happy New Year!

Angi Davis - January 10, 2010 - 11:19 am

Pure AWESOME-NESS! I love her flowers and that dress…GAH!! Nicely done once again. Oh, and I’d never heard of this venue before, which is bad since I’ve lived here for over ten years. :O)

Somehow I didn’t see this post before. I totally remember them!

This is just beautiful.

And, well, I have no more words right now, just lots and lots of tears that I have to get under control, so I can go see a patient! ;)

Jerry- Chicago Wedding Photographer - January 12, 2010 - 7:45 pm

Great attention to detail in this set!

Lori Herrin - January 10, 2010 - 12:45 pm

This is what your photography is all about AND the words that you say that make all of us cry with tears of joy. I haven’t been more proud of the two of you then I am at this moment. I agree with Parris and hope that this isn’t the last of these type of photos that you’ll be taking. I think it brings home to all of us all the sacrifices that these men and women do for our country. So glad there was a happy ending to the story you told over a year ago and that Joseph made it home safe and sound. Thanks so much for making me feel that I was part of it even though I wasn’t there. The pictures and your words took my breath away!
Bravo!
Love you! Mom

Parris Whittingham @iamparris - January 10, 2010 - 2:13 am

I am so happy to see you both using your passion for photography to give back. The need for people to INSIST on giving back to their local communities will surely expand in the coming dece. This story opens minds and hearts to the sacrifice of war. Liberty comes at an expense most of us are simply unwilling to pay.

These images help humanize the lives of people who we often polarize (most people are either pro-war or anti-war). One cannot look at these images and not FEEL something. They connect you to the story in a brilliant new perspective. I encourage you both to keep exploring stories continue your exploration of serving your community and country.

Christine - January 10, 2010 - 1:34 am

As a former Army wife, can I just say how INCREDIBLE it is that you were there for them to capture this? So fabulous. It is such an emotional time and you’re so exhausted, you don’t even remember it all. This is GREAT!

Cathy (Gallagher) Kosin - January 8, 2010 - 2:19 pm

Amazing work yet again. You are truely artists.
Welcome home little brother, couldn’t be more proud of you.

Rachel Jacobus - January 8, 2010 - 10:44 am

TEARS!!!!!!!

April G - January 8, 2010 - 10:13 am

Are you trying to make me cry?! (this blog should come with a warning. ;) )

ashley folkema - January 8, 2010 - 9:38 am

What a special and powerful story and series. Very touching! :)

Cate Shaffer - January 8, 2010 - 9:35 am

The world is bombarded with photos everyday and images and I think people have begun to separate their emotions and really forget about these little moments. All over the world there are women, babies, and men who go through these moments every day; and I sincerely appreciate that I had the opportunity to witness this one. Thank you Gallagher’s for defending our country and thank you Cathy and David for the powerful images and support.

It is truly an honor to share in these two big occasions with all of you.

{15:51} photography - January 8, 2010 - 8:58 am

Wow…this was hard for me to look at. My brother-in-law is in Afghanistan right now and not due back home until July…every day of turning on the news takes my breath away for a moment. I just need this moment…the one you captured here…to happen instead…

ashleigh - January 8, 2010 - 1:09 am

this is sooo touching! ad what great images!!! amazing work guys!!

Dad - January 8, 2010 - 1:01 am

Loved the photo of the little guy smiling up at his Father. Really enjoyed this one.

Tiffany Gallagher - January 7, 2010 - 11:33 pm

What can i say? I keep going back to the blog to read and reread what you wrote and see the pics over and over. You are truly an artist David. Not only with photos, but with capturing moments- even with words. This was a very long awaited moment and it seemed like it took forever to finally come. You guys were so awesome putting up with the changes in schedule and being there in the early hours of the morning to support me and just be there for me. David- You and Cathy truly are outstanding photographers but you are so much more than that. I cannot tell you how much it meant to me that you were not only there for me to take pictures of such a wonderful occasion (at the last minute as well!) but you were supporting me just like you did at his deployment ceremony a year ago. You were so positive and energetic even at the crazy hours we were there (2:30-6:30 AM!!!) and you kept me laughing the whole time. It was great to have you both there and once again, i don’t know how i would have done it without you. You have managed to, on two occasions, really capture our feelings and emotions in a way that we will truly cherish forever. Thank you both for the patience, the understanding, the enthusiasm, and the support.

imthiaz houseman - January 7, 2010 - 9:31 pm

Karalee - January 7, 2010 - 5:06 pm

I remember the deployment post from last year – it was stunningly captured and made me bawl my eyes out. This one has got me with tears running down my cheeks. It’s so beautiful. Wow. It must have been such an honour to shoot something as special and intimate as this!

What a wonderful experience you got to capture!

Bob and Joanne Hyatt - January 6, 2010 - 7:14 pm

Joanne and I missed the party, but were honored by spending New Year’s Eve with Lou and Lori and our family…then visited their home on New Year’s Day, the first official day of their retirement. We cherish our infrequent visits with Lou and Lori and wish them a long and fulfilling retirement. I enjoy photography…when I see work of the level and quality of David and Cathy I feel like a blacksmith making a computer chip. We send our very best to Lou and Lori and all their family and many friends. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Kayte Gildner - January 6, 2010 - 9:30 am

Many congratulations to Lou and Lori, and we hope to be walking through the doors at Bortell Animal Hospital for many, many years to come. :O)

Tears were shed once again. :D You guys perfectly captured the essence of the day. I am just speechless and wish that I could put in words, that you guys seem to do to easily, just what this day meant to Lou and I and how happy we are that our son and daughter-in-law (C + D) are such fantastic photographers. You did this day PROUD! Thank you so much! Love you lots! Mom and Lou
